Все восемь Старых танцев (Old Measures), кроме одного, упоминаются во всех семи манускриптах из так называемой «коллекции Судебных Иннов». Описания Черной алеманды приведены только в пяти документах. Новая алеманда и алеманда Лорейн описаны только в PR, так что они не включены в данное исследование.

Второй лист манускрипта RCM (тот, что записан другим почерком) включает повторное описание трех танцев — Квадратной паваны, танца графа Эссекса и Черной алеманды. Хотя эти описания гораздо менее подробны, чем остальные, тем не менее они дополняют наше представления об описанных композициях, так что мы включили их в общий список.

Большая часть транскрипций приведена по статье Уилсона «Dancing in the Inns of Court», (Historical Dance, vol. 2, No.5, 1986-87). Транскрипция танцев из Somerset Record Office DD/WO 55/7, item 36, приведена по работе Стокса и Брейнард «The olde Measures’ in the West Country: John Willoughby’s manuscript»(Stokes, Brainard, Records of Early English Drama, vol. 17, number 2, 1992).

В манускрипте Rawlinson Poet. 108 нет описания танца под названием «Черная алеманда». В то же время танец, который назван «Новая сесилия», имеет сходную структуру, и мы включили его в сравнение (согласно Мюлалли (Mullally), в 1570 году была записана баллада Бетта (Bette) «To the newe tune of the Blacke Almaine, vpon Scissillia»).

Rawlinson  D.864 содержит только заголовок танца. Описание из Harleian 367 неполно. Уилсон пишет, что «у писца были проблемы с пером и, вероятно, именно по этой причине он прервал записи». Изучая документ, мы пришли к выводу, что описание Черной алеманды сделано другими почерком, нежели чем остальные записи из этого же источника.
