Vento del tempotitle

«Vento del tempo» means  «Wind of time» in Italian. WInd, that sweeps on its way civilizations and nations, mountains and cities. Wind, which rises into the air and takes away everything that is small, temporary, unimportant, leaving only those things that are worthy of mememory of many generations. Wind, that grasped us and now again and again whirls us in its forever new dance and that will never leave anybody again, returning once and again to the magnificence and mystery of passed ages. Who gave up to it, will then never be the same.

There can be different ways to get deep into the past. We prefer to do it through the Dance that has always mirrored interaction between men and women, great and vain, important and insignificant. Though the repertoire of our group includes dances of several countries and periods, studying, recreating and staging Late-Renaissace dance, that of XVI — early XVII centuries, remains our mainstreem activity. Our repertoire is based on works by great Italian mastres of dance, Fabritio Caroso and Cesare Negri, but we enjoy using French, English, German and other dancing patterns of the period, recreated on base of surviving primary sources or stylised by contemporary choreographers — specialsts on historical dance as well. Besides of solemn or glittering court dances we perform joyous and somewhat more understandable folk dances, also reconstructed on base of surviving pimary and indirect sources.

Though our mainstreem activity is a staged representation of historical dances, our main goal is recreating and representing the spirit of the dance exactly as it used to be centuries ago. This is based on the most exact reconstruction of dancing technique and supported by acquaintance with culture and history of the period we study, designing and sewing historically accurate costumes, which members of our group execute with their own hands.

The «Vento del tempo» group was formed in autumn 2006 on base of second-year class and manifested itself as a dancing group for the first time during «Lvov the Old» festival in Lvov, Ukraine. Nowadays it exists as a part of  XVI century dance group of Saint-Petersburg Historical Dance Club. Besides performances on different events and on different stages of our city, members of the group have performed on festival in Chesky Krumlov and Krakow.

The group is lead by Ekaterina Smolnyakova, teacher of the Historical Dance Club, who is studying and teaching historical dances since 2002.
